The human body needs a certain core amount of fat in order to survive in a continuous healthy state. Fat regulates body temperature, cushions and insulates organs and tissues and is the main form of the body's energy storage. The table below contains typical body fat percentages for various fitness categories. Body fat percent is the actual percent of fat in your body. For the purposes of the calculations, if you deduct the total weight of fat in your body from your total body weight, you are left with your lean body weight. Use the table to determine the body fat percent applicable to you and the ideal theoretical percentage you should have for your weight.
